Getting Your Period
Published in Paperback by Dial Books for Young Readers (May, 1989)
Average review score:

Excellent Teaching Material for Healthcare ProvidersI have used this book in my practice as an OB-GYn Nurse Practitioner and have recommended it to many of my patients and friends with daughters about to enter puberty. It isn't the dry, clinical text seen in earlier works and the illustrations make it fun. I believe the best chapter to be "What if...?" as it was written in collaboration with the author's 15 yo niece.

The Gift
Published in Hardcover by Crossway Books (September, 1994)
Average review score:

A Wonderful GIFT!!This is one of the finest, most visually stunning books I've ever seen. It is "seven meditations on the events surrounding Jesus' birth" and it tells the story exquisitely. A fine read for Christians (including Catholics) and non-Christians alike. The illustrations are powerful and multidimensional -- especially the one introducing "The Visitation." I give this book to every newborn in my family and friends' families. It is not a children's book, but a wonderful treasure. It is, in itself, quite a "gift." (The previous reviews on this page don't seem to be about this particular book).

Glitter of Gold - An Avalon Western
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co ()
Average review score:

Glitter Of GoldThis is a ten stars book. You will be turning the pages as Kent Conwell takes you once again on a fun filled exciting journey with three children to Ft Sill. What he thinks will be easy to take them turns out to be heavy on the heart. And when Margaret shows up, well things get even more exciting. The children are adorable and so well mannered that you can't help but fall in love with them. I laughed, I cried. The book was wonderful. I loved the children, Del, Margaret and his brother. This is a must read book. Kent Conwell has once again done it again!!!

Global Capitalism: The New Leviathan (Suny Series in Radical Theory)
Published in Hardcover by State Univ of New York Pr (September, 1990)
Average review score:

Timely analysis of the global economic system. For all Marxists, and most non-Marxists, this book is simply unique. Professors Ross and Trachte have designed a framework accounting for the change in the class balance of power resulting from the globalization of capital. They then apply this framework to three case studies, thereby showing how the owners of capital have become stronger vis a vis the state and labour, with the result being an intensification of class struggle on a global scale, resulting in the rollback of many of the gains made by the working class earlier on in this century, (such as the welfare state, minimum wage laws, etc..) They also explain why earlier theories, (monopoly capitalism and world systems,) are inadequate insofar as explaining the global economy of the 1990's is concerned. Their own theory of global capitalism, on the other hand, does this brilliantly; for anyone who wishes to understand the fundamentals of the international economy, this book is invaluable.

The Grinch Makes Good (Harlequin Temptation, No 664)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (December, 1997)
Average review score:

A cheer me up book for the holidays or anytimeIt's a great read. The supporting cast had me rooting for them as well as the "Grinch". And it took me a while to realize that the author told us in her hilarious website daily journal that she would make the hero of her next book an ER doctor due to her daily "experiences" and she...umm..delivered. At times I felt as we advanced through the story that this could be a movie. The element of music felt like it was in the background amidst the holiday fare of Christmas. Rather than humor, the fun of what the "new" gifts for the 12 days of Christmas song would turn out to be was enjoyable and and full of warmth. The gift for for Ladies Dancing and Lords A Leaping part was innovative and still a perfect fit for the story and mood. Something I enjoyed about this book was that the romance permeated the spirit of the story rather than being force fed to us. At times, I felt like shouting the old adage, "Kiss her, you fool !" The pacing was smooth like a good evening. Thanx for another good time, Ms Kent. It was a cheer me up book for the holidays with a lot more substance (and structure) than I expected from the line. You're raising the standards.
